How in the Blue Hell do you fire Mario Venzago?

Listen: Ray Steele talks to Maestro Mario Venzago about his return to the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra

That was the question I asked myself after five minutes with Mr. Venzago, much less the half-hour or so we ended up spending together.

I know, technically he was not fired as Music Director of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in 2009; his “contract wasn’t renewed.”  Please.  It happened just before the season began, with several concerts already scheduled – with Venzago as the conductor!  So he was fired, whacked, future endeavored.

I wasn’t here when it took place, and I know someone else was in charge of the ISO at the time.  That person has his side of the story.  But that person isn’t here anymore, and Maestro Venzago is back.  He was a delight to talk to, and you can see his reunion with the ISO this weekend.
